Wooden cutting board on a textured beige fabric surface

Salzmark One

Pure American Maple

$229.00
Description

Most wooden cutting boards are built like furniture: glued wood pieces sealed in plastics and oils you wouldn’t choose to ingest.

We make our cutting boards by the same principles we hold for our food: they are whole, natural, and unprocessed.

Made in USA from a carved block of solid maple with no other ingredients.

Care
  • Hand wash only, using mild soap
  • Wet the entire board evenly when washing to prevent warping
  • Never soak or put in the dishwasher
  • Dry with maximum air exposure on all sides. Lean on the handle when drying upright
  • The surface can be gently smoothed/resurfaced with a kitchen scourer or stiff brush while the board is dry. Wash afterward to remove any dust.
Specs
  • ~3.5 lbs (boards vary slightly in weight)
  • Carved from a single piece of 1" thick solid slab maple
  • Cutting surface: 9x13in
  • Handle: 4x2in
  • Both sides can be used equally
  • Logo is carved on one side of the board only
  • Made in U.S.A. from American lumber

Bring clarity to your kitchen

Plastic, glue, oil, and additive free

Reduce exposure to unknown toxins and microplastics found in wood additives

Made in New York

With lumber from New York. Entirely domestic supply chain

100% American Hard Maple

No other ingredients. Durable + gentle on knives

The healthiest choice only works if it’s the easy one. We designed the cutting board to be frictionless

Air, not oil

You don’t need to oil your cutting boards. Air drying to completion preserves wood’s strength and helps the wood to self clean.†

Our integrated handle doubles as a rest, so the board dries evenly anywhere.

Easy to move, easy to clean

With a surface area of 9×13 inches, it’s big enough for most tasks yet compact enough to handle with one hand.

Extremely durable, it’s built for kitchens that prioritize health, where cooking happens every day.

What we do differently

We researched common cutting board additives, learned they were unnecessary, and removed them all.

FAQ

Can I use both sides?

Yes! Both sides are intended for use, and the handle can be used in any orientation.

Can I oil the cutting board?

We intend for the board to be used un-oiled.

If you prefer to oil the cutting board, please do, but please continue to follow all provided care instructions.

Is the cutting board produced sustainably?

Yes. We strictly source from local mills using sustainable forestry practices in New York state. The forests are some of the most responsibly managed in the country: 2.5 trees are planted to every 1 harvested each year. You can read more about the state of New York's forests here: https://woodproducts.ny.gov/sustainability

We are not able to carry a label like 'FSC Certified' because FSC certification requires every step of the chain—from the mill to the manufacturer to the brand—to carry certification, which isn’t feasible for us as a new company working with small manufacturers.

Is the cutting board durable?

Very. Most cutting boards break at their glue seams. Our cutting boards are made from a solid piece of wood without glue seams.

With even washing and proper air drying, the wood can last decades. Please note that hairline edge cracks may form without affecting performance.

Will the wood get stains?

Yes. This is a sign the wood grain is open, which is a feature we intentionally preserve.

The wood will also naturally clear stains from repeat cycles of wetting and drying. We recommend allowing this to happen rather than trying to scrub the stain out.

While stains will be very visible when the board is new, over time, the board's overall color will darken slightly as the board adapts to use, and new stains will not be noticeable.

What is the return policy?

The cutting board can be returned unused within 30 days of purchase. Please email us at support@salzmark.com to request a return.

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn’t the case, let us know and we’ll do our best to work with you to make it right.

At this time, we only ship to the continental United States, though we plan to expand shipping as soon as possible.

Our story

I love cooking, I hate plastic, and I’m not a woodworker. I never thought I’d make cutting boards.

That changed when my brother-in-law gave me a cutting board he carved from a solid slab of untreated wood. I saw the difference immediately, and realized most wooden boards were glued with plastics and sealed with petroleum oils—things I didn’t want near my food.

I then learned about all of the research that shows untreated wood resists bacteria better than plastic or waterproof surfaces.

Knowing this, I was surprised I couldn't find any pure wood cutting boards for sale, so I had one made. I liked it so much, I decided to leave my job in tech to share it—and that was the start of Salzmark.

We make cutting boards held to the same high standards as the food they're used to prepare.
